I receive many questions about Geek's Toy, how to hedge, using ladder, Tick Offset etc. Having some spare time tonight I decided to record a very short and simple movie using The Toy's latest feature {TRAINING MODE} ;)

It's about how to change your training bank, how to enable Staking & Tools, how to enable Hedged Tick Offset. I hope it could be useful for some new users of The Geek's Toy, new traders or anyone still learning how to trade.

For best result watch it in HD mode if possible...

Forgot to say, TRAINING MODE should be enabled before you log in as shown on image below...highlighted area.

How would you compare it to the real deal, i.e. the real market? Do you see any changes or anything, which would put you off as a beginner who is trying out different strategies or are the odds movement very real life-like if you know what I mean.

To be honest I used training mode only a few times so I can not be sure I am right about it. I believe odds movement is as it would be in Betfair live mode. I mean, in training mode markets are reacting to REAL MONEY only...so no difference there.

Correct me anyone if I am wrong ;) However you can not be sure your bets would be matched at same odds and at the same time in LIVE mode. When using low stakes on high liquidity markets it should be real life-like...

Regarding my training movie I believe my result would be almost the same in LIVE mode....but have to be said one more time....you never know for sure :)
The Geek said on his forum...
"Also note that although I have done my best to simulate real market behaviour, training mode does not accurately reflect real money trading. This is for a variety of reasons, the main being that markets react to real money being placed which they can not do with dummy money. Whilst training mode is a good way to learn the product and the markets, there is no substitute for the real thing."

I think training mode is not so useful on greyhounds markets...

Anyway, it's a GREAT and cheap way to learn how to use your software, try out tools and some strategies before you decide to test real life trading with minimum stakes....Wish I had such great tool when I started my Betfair trading :)

Hi can you explain a bit more to a newb wanting to get started:

At the beginning you pressed 175 on the scroll bar at the bottom. What is it?

When you click on the left side of the ladder what are you doing laying or backing? What are you wanting to see on the grid to then place another bet?

What do the different colours on the grid rep I seen orange; yellow; green; red?

Lastly you changed the tick offset from 1 - 2. What is it and why did you do this?

Hopefully you can take the time to answer these. It would be a great help. Thanks.

Hi Chris,

I pressed button labeled 175 which is my stake.
Click in the left side of the ladder is laying. You can of course reverse your ladder if you wish.
Different colors indicate price change on the market.
I almost never use the grid when placing my bets.
I did change tick offset just to show it is there and how to change it...no other reason in this case...I assume you know how tick offset works ;)

In this 1.3 min long movie I tried only show some of features available with in The Toy.

Hope it helps, good luck !

Hi thanks for replying. I thought that the answers would clear everything up, but I'm no better off to understanding to what it going on.

I thought that you laid first to back, but you lay at 1.31 and the next thing you do is lay at 1.32. Only once did I see you press the back side. Also, how do you know the odds are going to go upwards?

Plus I don't know how tick off setting works. Sigh :(

Hi Chris,

Again, movie was made to show training mode and some of the tools available, not to demonstrate working strategy on tennis betting ;)
I started with lay of Federer because I thought value was there, low odds and big chance for Lopez to take a set. My stake was chosen randomly. After matched lay @1.31 I placed another lay @1.32 etc....

Number of placed back bets was different from lay bets just because I used tick offset tool and finally made hedge by clicking on PnL column on the right side of the ladder...{green numbers}

After about 1 min in the movie I enabled tick offset tool {"Ticks Full Hedged" but there are other options available} which means....If I lay @1.31 then The Toy will place hedging bet @1.33....{remember I changed tick offset from 1 to 2?} 1.31<--->1.33 = 2 ticks away...right ?

Hope it answers some of your questions....If you are user of The Toy there is a "?" in every window of application and it opens manual for you. Many answers can be found there...:)

Good luck !
